Hello there! It's me Shourouk, and if you are wondering what my name really means in English, well it means "sunrise". I was born in Damascus/Syria in 1994, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Political Sciences from Damascus University. I moved to Istanbul in 2018 and had my Master's degree in International Relations and Political Sciences from AltınbaÅŸ University. My academic specialization is studying political parties, especially the radical-right parties in Europe.
I am working as a content writer since 2013, and today I am establishing my own project, WARAQ book club, which is concerned with discussing and reviewing books and novels.

My Story

I still remember the first time I held a real book and read it. I was in my 6th grade when my father's friend gave me a simplified novels collection for the most important international ones such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Robinson Crusoe, and Lorna Doone. I was impressed by the characters, I mean yeah, of course, I am a teenager who is reading a love story!!. Therefore, I decided to read more in order to explore more.

Later, I bought with my monthly money the whole collection for the Lebanese writer Jubran Khalil Jubran, with a poetry collection for the Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani. I read it, loved it, and wrote down the phrases I liked the most, and hung it up above my bed to get inspired and motivated every time I see it.

Since then, my journey with writing reviews has never stopped. Because I think it constitutes a special space for me to discuss the content of the book with myself, understand its events, and analyze its characters, and this process in itself honed my reading comprehension.

Hence the idea of WARAQ book club just flashed in my mind, and I wondered.. how it would be if such space for discussion turned into a larger and more interactive one? and why not?

Let's keep in touch!
